Costa, the Scarecrow, too busy scaring away crows to chat!
A familiar figure was among the artistic array of scarecrows zealously guarding the giant pumpkins as they vied for honours at this year’s Sydney Royal Easter Show.
However, Costa (the Scarecrow – pictured above), turned out to be more focused on his task of scaring away crows than interacting with the crowd.
Tasked with interviewing exhibitors, I was asked by the program’s producer, Karl, to interview Costa SC. I was somewhat dubious about my likelihood of success at this task, but I gave it my best shot.
As a gardening guru, I asked Costa SC for his opinion on the standard of the giant pumpkins entered in this year’s competition. He didn’t respond, although I may have detected a nod and a wink.
I tried again and asked if he was pleased to have won the scarecrow competition. However, once again, Costa SC was unresponsive.
He definitely wasn’t as responsive as his alter ego on TV!
For the record, the display of giant pumpkins was the envy of many vegetable growers, while the array of “human” and “animal” scarecrows was diverse and clearly effective.
There were no crows to be seen at the Showgrounds!
