Ever Met a Champion Woodchopper?

What would you ask if you had the chance to meet an Australian champion woodchopper?

That question was top of mind as I caught up with Amanda Beams ahead of the Sydney Royal Easter Show. A true legend of the sport, Amanda holds five world titles and three STIHL Timbersports Australian Championships—a powerhouse in the world of woodchopping.

Woodchopping runs deep in her veins. A fifth-generation competitor, Amanda shares the passion with her husband and sons. This year, they all made the journey from Tasmania to Sydney, joining elite athletes from around the globe to battle it out for world titles at the iconic Ugly Fish Woodchop Stadium.

I had the chance to watch Amanda compete alongside her son Dale in the Jack and Jill event. The energy was electric. Although they didn’t take the win, the race was razor-close—right down to the final saw. The crowd held its breath, the atmosphere so intense you could hear a pin drop.

After the event, I spoke with Amanda, who was all smiles. At 54, she’s still competing at the highest level and loving every moment of it. She’ll return home to Tasmania proud of her performance—and already looking forward to next year’s show.

One thing’s for sure: Amanda Beams isn’t just competing. She’s inspiring the next generation of woodchoppers with every swing of the axe.
