When you think of the Sydney Royal Easter Show, you think of three things: farm animals, rides and… the twisty potato? Well, maybe that’s not entirely true. However, for Maddix Godfrey, the part-owner of Maddix’s Twisty Potato, this wouldn’t come as complete surprise.
He says that they are “expecting to sell over 20 tonnes of potatoes” at the show this year. That’s more than 133,000 twisty potatoes sold over eleven days!
His family have been in the food and entertainment industry for over 100 years, selling anything from burgers and corndogs to rides and sideshows. However, these days when they come to The Sydney Royal Easter Show, they specialise in one item. The twisty potato.
This is the impact these delicious little potato spirals are having on the Easter Show and for Sydneysiders it’s a must-have. Maddix says that they “travel all up and down Australia, from Cairns to Tasmania and by far the biggest lover of the twisty potato is in Sydney.”
Why have they become an icon of the Sydney Royal Easter Show? I’m not entirely sure. However, if you are walking around the Easter Show without a twisty potato, you may feel a little left out.
So be sure to get down to Maddix’s Twisty Potato for a delicious twisty potato. You can find their trucks on Riverina Avenue and Orana Parade every day of the show.
