Ali has been entering baking competitions at local agricultural shows since she was a little girl and in 2024 she finally won first prize for the best cupcake at the Sydney Royal Easter Show. In the same year she opened a boutique cupcake shop called the Cupcake Co. in Berrima located in the southern highlands of NSW. The Cupcake Co. has since become a favorite tourist destination.
These cupcakes are not your usual cupcakes that you can buy in any country bakery, the ingredients are simple and can be sourced from any local supermarket, but the cakes look high-end.
“I think the secret for me in the shop is that all of our cupcakes are handmake, we don’t have a team behind me, everything is hand made but use readily available ingredients and I try to have everything Australian made and make it with a bit of fun and a bit of love”.
You can source a variety of different flavored cupcakes that is bound to satisfy that sweet tooth craving, including the honey cupcake which tastes like honey, Ferraro Roche cupcake, and the passion fruit cupcake which was voted this week’s best cupcake on their online social media poll.
The cupcakes have a swirling with a creamed based icing which looks appetizing and it pleasing to the eye.
The shop has a very English cottage country vibes with a white ladder hanging from the ceiling adorned with different colored flowers hanging from the ceiling and walls, and there is a glass encased cupcake on display which is a real show piece to the shop.
Today marks one year anniversary since the shop opened and if the Cupcake Co. wins the second year running, it really will be the icing on the [cup] cake.
