Celebrating the Bush Through Art…

The wonders of the Australian bush are some of the most unique sights in the world. Award winning Sydney-based artist Julianne Allcorn is one of the many artists that takes inspiration from our country’s natural flora and fauna. What sets her sketches apart from others however the execution.

The Burralong Valley, Lower Hunter and around her garden studio is where Juli prefers to create. It is here that she takes in all senses from the natural world, whether that be sight, smell and texture, and expels that energy onto the page. Juli’s page is not any ordinary page. Birch wood panels form a natural surface texture to each work, and etchings with pencil and watercolour bring insects, birds, flowers and trees to life. These works are often drawn to scale, meaning each complete piece consists of multiple wood panels and spans several metres in size.

Juli has noted that her artworks are therapeutic for audiences. Those that are less inclined to go outside and witness wildlife in the flesh are more than happy to get up close to the drawings. She has said that her work is also a form of preservation for what has been lost in the recent bushfires, with the hope that each work brings back a sense of pride and joy for the natural beauty of the bush.
