Last Monday our field reporter Annabelle visited the Pet Pavilion and checked out some singing superstar parrots! She quickly fell in love with Charlie; a gorgeous Quaker Parrot full of energy and personality (and lover of phone cases) But what does it take to take care and own Charlie? Annabelle spoke with Debbie, the owner of Andrews Bird Palace and Garden Centre at the Pet Pavillion to learn if she’s cut out for a Charlie of her own!
“Its a long process- we hand raise the baby birds and slowly teach them how to socialize so they aren’t attached to just one person, and we just keep handling going on so he’s comfortable being held.”
Debbie provided additional tips for Quaker Parrots, saying they are “generally jovial birds, they have spunk and sometimes that can be difficult, but give them physical touch and time and they’re a really fun loving animal to have”
What does Charlie eat? A pretty snack based diet of sunflower seeds, grains, corn and dried fruit- many humans would call this ‘girl dinner’. Despite this- Charlie seemed quite taken with Annabelle’s phone case and made sure to leave a bird beak sized mark in her cover!
Take a listen to Charlie’s singing pipes here!
