I went Searching for Easter Eggs but I Found the Cutest Show I’ve Ever Seen.

To me, Easter Sunday is about one thing: Easter Eggs. But sometimes, what you want isn’t necessarily what you need.

This is the story of my mission to find Easter Eggs at the Sydney Royal Easter Show, and the unexpected event that changed everything.

It’s early on Easter Sunday and my hunt is about to begin. I felt ready. The night before, I’d studied The Sydney Royal Easter Show map, searching for possible Easter egg hotspots: The Woolworths Dome? Orana Parade? The Showbag Pavilion? No, that would be too obvious. I needed to go straight to the source.

I needed to find the Easter Bunny’s burrow, the place where he surely keeps all his eggs. So I made my way to The Sydney Royal Rabbit Hopping Show.

The arena was buzzing when I arrived. I managed to get a good view from behind the fence where I searched for my eggs. But all I saw were regular rabbits in their pens, surrounded by nothing but hay. No Easter eggs in sight.

How could this be? Did the Easter Bunny not visit his rabbit friends? Did he even come to The Show? Was my whole expedition for nothing?

Well… not entirely.

I think the American rapper Pitbull put it best, “there’s no losing, only learning.” And what I learnt on Easter Sunday was that The Sydney Royal Rabbit Hopping Show is one of the funniest events you will see at The Sydney Royal Easter Show.

Picture an equestrian event, but instead of 1.5-metre-high hurdles you have 10-centimetre hurdles. And instead of the natural athletic prowess of a horse, you have a disobedient fluffball. The result is a group of bunnies barely showing any interest in the hurdles while their trainer gently nudges them forward.

It was shambolic.  It was a mayhem.  It was perfect.

I’d watch it ten times over. Honestly, the highlight of my show. If you ever have the chance, do yourself a favour and see this show.

Oh, and just as the hopping show ended guess who arrived? The Easter Bunny. And yes, he had Easter eggs.

It was all meant to be!
