Do you remember going to the show when you were a kid? How excited you were at the sight of all those rides, food and animals! Many of you might have hated the idea of having to leave the show and probably wanted to go home with the horses, sheep and pigs and live on a farm forever. Well harnessing that passion for agriculture is something the Rural Agricultural Society or RAS takes very seriously. The RAS strives to give youngens connection to the land, some strong leadership and innovative ideas to make sure Australian agriculture thrives in the future.
This is where The RAS Rural Achiever Award comes in. It’s a state-wide leadership program run by the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW. It recognises future young leaders, 20-29 years of age, who are working hard to make a significant contribution to their community and to rural Australia.
The program promotes and facilitates unique agricultural industry networking opportunities with rural leaders during the Sydney Royal Easter Show. This heightens the opportunity for the recipients to become future leaders in primary industry or the rural community.
The recipients are given additional opportunities throughout the year such as representing NSW at the National Rural Ambassador Award, and the chance to partake in an exchange program to the Royal Adelaide Show.
The program will celebrate 31 years in 2020 and it just keeps getting stronger. So if you are a young person or know of a youngen who’s interested in agriculture, visit rasnsw.com.au. Or head on down and see them at the show!
