If you have been sitting down in the dining area of Woolworths Fresh Food Dome, you might have noticed the twisted steel horse sculptures decorating the entry way. These two magnificent sculptures are created by award winning sculptor Mark Niglia. Mark ses the energy of distorted metals, charred wood, and fragmented concrete to instinctively create life-size sculptures. His artistic practice relies upon raw creativity to ensure every art piece is unique. The two pieces in the Woolworth Fresh Food Dome are called Stockman, which the large work horse sculpture with his head raised high , signifying the strength of the work horse. The 2nd one is called Duchess, showing the gentle, regal, feminine side of horses.
Mark’s style incorporates positioning pieces in a tumultuous yet organised way to create shapes and lines that portray his vision.
Through his creative practice, Mark explores the interaction between horse and human. The strength and power that a horse possesses, yet its ability to calm and heal, allows Mark to create a wide breadth of emotion through the form of a horse. These pieces of art take over 100 hours to create
You can see Mark’s work through out the Easter show and at the Woolloomooloo wharf in Sydney. His website is marknigliasculpture.com.
