The Springs: Keeping Indigenous Values at Heart

It’s no lie that Australia has had a rocky history when it comes to indigenous affairs. Amongst that all however are stories of triumph and support, particularly from smaller communities and properties. Here on Show Radio, there’s only the good stuff to share.

During this morning’s show, Lachy spoke to Scott Tourle from his property in southern Dubbo. Scott and his family own and operate sheep and cattle on their property known as The Springs and are descendants of the original land operators who purchased the property way back 1857. Since its establishment, relations with the local indigenous people have always been held in high regard, as the property lies upon several burial sites and scared spaces.

The Springs has been held in high regard throughout its history as one of the earliest Australian farming properties to embrace indigenous culture, and to provide fair wages to its indigenous workers. It’s one of the mainly reasons why The Springs is still operating today as one of Dubbo’s most respected properties and as a replica attraction for life in the mid-1800s.
