One of the essential services of the Sydney Royal Easter Show is that of the first responders, ready for anything from an injured cowboy to heatstroke. It’s an arsenal of volunteers comprised of students and cadets and mentored by medical professionals.
Since the Show kicked off last Friday, they have treated over 560 people and with a busy easter weekend looming, they will probably see many more!
Something to note is that St John’s receives no government funding and relies entirely on support from the community. We had the privilege of chatting with Manar Alaqbari, a youth leader with the Bankstown cadets. It’s her third year volunteering at the Show and rotates through one of St John’s six sites in the precinct. Her team came with her to the studio and their camaraderie and spirit were very apparent.
Who knew you could sign up as young as 8 years old? St John’s provides all the necessary training and you get to work with other like-minded people, all committed to helping others.
Rest assured you are in good hands at the Show as St John volunteers are on hand if needed!
Check them out at the Lifestyle Pavilion with information kits available and First Aid kits for sale.
