The Sydney Royal Easter Show hosts world renowned woodchopping competitions every year, and it’s THE event at the easter show, drawing in crowds that are sometimes too big to fit into the stadium!
I got a chance to talk to the 2024 Women’s Underhand Woodchopping World Champion Ashleigh (Ash) Marsh about the sport she loves so much and it’s evident that there is such prestige associated with these competitions at the Sydney Royal Easter Show
“Sydney is the pinnacle. When you start woodchopping, everyone always talks about, how Sydney’s amazing, Sydney’s the, Wimbledon of woodchopping, and it really is.”
Competitors travel from around the world to go head to head with the best of the best, and to take a shot at being crowned world champion.
I also gained a little insight into the mindset of a champion athlete! When asked about her approach to these big competitions she had this to say –
“I find if you’re in the mindset that you’re out there to beat somebody else, then you’re never going to win. I’ve always just gone out and thought if I’m happy with my log at the end of the day, then that’s good!”
