How would you like to take your family on a holiday every year? Sounds good, right?
You probably think you can’t afford it but with the new Saveful App, you can save thousands of dollar every year in grocery bills. CEO & founder, Kim McDonnell is using her stall at the Ag Discovery Pavilion to launch Saveful and teach showgoers how to cut down on food waste.
“So the way that Saveful works is you enter into the app, all the bits and pieces of food that you might have leftover at the end of every week… We then present you with a whole lot of meal options with all the amazing things that you can make.”
Central to the app’s philosophy is to tackle the cost of living pressures that families are facing.
“We know 80% of Australian families are feeling the pinch, yet 70% of everything we put in the bin is still perfectly edible.”
Australians throw out a staggering amount of food every year but just how big is the problem?
“Food waste in this country is a huge challenge and an area larger than Victoria, every single year is used to grow food that we buy and then put in the rubbish bin. It costs the average Australian family anywhere from $2,000 to $3,000 a year. That’s a family holiday.”
To celebrate the launch of the app at the Sydney Royal Easter Show, Kim and her team have added a recipe for French Toast using all your leftover hot cross buns and chocolate Easter eggs. Scrumptious!
