Every day until March 17th, from 10am-4pm in the Arts & Crafts Pavilion, the woodturning demonstrations are held. But what IS woodturning?
Woodturning is the art of shaping wood which is fastened to a lathe machine and spun around. Various operations are performed such as cutting, drilling and sanding, to create beautiful items like bowls, pegs, and baseball bats.
Britt spoke to the vice president of the Sydney Woodturners Guild Tony Ney, who mentioned that their favourite part of the art is creating gifts to give away and watching peoples’ eyes light up.
Anybody 14 years and over can join the Guild and become connected to a local woodturning group. Materials are provided and the cost is little, so why not try it out? Head on over to the demonstrations today or tomorrow, and grab a flyer for more information. You WOOD-n’t want to miss out!
