Have you ever wondered how the Farmers feed their cattle, sheep or any other livestock during periods of drought…
Here are the ‘Farm’ Facts:
- Hay is transported by one of these trucks – a Western Star 2011 Stratosphere Built in the USA. 18-speed manual gearbox and 18.5 metres in overall length.
- Carries 23 tonnes of Lucerne Hay & each bale weighs about 600kg which is assessed by the Department of Primary Industries feed test in order to determine the value per kg of the feed purchased.
- The test results indicate very good quality lucerne with high protein and energy.
- During the drought, feed is rationed and one 600kg bale of lucerne would feed one cow for about 100 days and would have cost about $600 per tonne or $350 per bale.
