Scone-troversy

No food has ever divided the nation more than the humble scone. Every nan and her dog has their own secret recipe for the perfect scone which is passed down from generation to generation as a family heirloom.

So why does a light and fluffy pastry start family feuds at tea time? It has everything to do with how the toppings are added.

Does the jam come first then the cream, or do you spread the cream then top with jam?

This question has divided the nation in two for too long, so Dana travelled down to the CWA tea room at the Sydney Royal Easter Show to get a consensus from the people in the know, the ones eating sones of course. Take a listen to the results below:

But that’s not the end of the controversy.

How do you pronounce scone? Does it rhyme with con or cone? That all depends on where you are from, the majority of Australians choose to rhyme with gone whilst quests from the UK argue that it should rhyme with bone.

No matter what you call them or where you come from, there is one thing we can all agree on, they’re absolutely delicious no matter how you like them.
