Bright, fresh, and passionate! Celebrating its thirtieth year of Show Radio, the 2024 broadcast will be a delightful mix of country music, interviews, radio packages, and live crosses. It is the very first broadcast of the learning year and students will take the theory of radio and turn it into radio programs that are magical, and entertaining and reflect the voices, stories, colour, and excitement of the 101st Sydney Royal Easter Show.
AFTRS student Lindsey Chapman is keen to cut her teeth in this unique, one-of-a-kind experience.
“It’s an exhilarating thought, knowing that my first on-air experience will be broadcast from such an iconic event. It’s a testament to the legacy and reputation that AFTRS has, that we have an opportunity like this just one month into our course. No doubt, it’ll be a baptism by fire, but I can’t imagine a better way to skill up, test myself, and discover what I’m capable of in broadcasting.”
The students are keen to chat with agricultural producers from across NSW and dig deep into the world of dog agility.
With families visiting from across Sydney, teens out and about with friends for the day, and lovers of exhibitions, show rides, and the latest Sydney Royal Easter Show gimmick food there are plenty of fun things for the students to capture and share with the Show Radio audience.
Show Radio Lecturer Sian Gard says that the Sydney Royal Easter Show is the perfect learning space for students who want to get a taste of the industry without pressure and the fear of making mistakes.
“Outside Broadcasts in Commercial, community, and public broadcasting are all about colour, movement, and the audience. Here at the Sydney Royal Easter Show AFTRS students can try out their broadcasting skills as presenters, producers, panel operators, and field reporters in a safe space, supported by AFTRS staff,” she said.
“You can be creative at Show Radio, try on different styles, and broadcast voices and you have plenty of stories to tell because there is so much going on. It is the perfect way to learn radio.”
